DesignMuti was started when I saw a need for giving South African designers more exposure to an international audience.
I’m a bit of a web addict and wanted to put my efforts into something that I could build up and so I started the blog as a hobby.
Shortly afterwards, Mercedes, a friend of mine who happens to be a writer, called me up and said she’d always wanted to be involved in the design world (especially wanting to own a design shop space with furniture, fashion, homeware etc.) Couldn’t have asked for better timing. I was at the stage where I was thinking that the blog needed more substance - features, articles, loads more text.
And so, DesignMuti has stepped up a notch. Watch our space - we have some good things coming.

Having been involved in custom magazine publishing for years, I find the web an awesome playground for information, ideas and images, but I mostly only get time to use it for work purposes, and that means following through on other peoples themes (needs) and ideas (wants). For a while now, I have been wanting to put energy into a more creative and personal life stream and thought Niki’s concept was unique. I was especially drawn to her focus on South African culture, art and design… we live life here with such inimitable flavours, be they stark, mystical, rich or taunting, and we really need to put it out there, on the international stage, for all to see.We all have our own idea of artistic design. I hope this space becomes a place where we can offer new, different and encompassing perspectives on how we view life and what we find pleasing to the mind’s eye. As I explore this world, I will try to challenge you and hope that you will join us on this journey as we look to expand the limited thinking of our minds and start to enter a realm of truly creative power, one that relies not just on our five senses, but that of our sixth sense too. Beware, this is DesignMuti and it promises to be magical.
